My Place for Younger Readers Teaching Notes

Sally Morgan’s multi-award-winning novel My Place has now been adapted for a new generation in My Place for Younger Readers. This autobiography details Sally’s journey to answer her questions about her family that will ultimately change their lives forever.

Sally was awarded the 1987 Australian Human Rights Award for Literature and the 1990 Order of Australia Book Prize for My Place, which is now considered an Australian classic.

These teaching notes are for those wanting to embrace own-voice stories in the classroom. They cover topics such as Aboriginal histories and cultures, the Stolen Generations, identity, family, Country and place, and truth-telling, and are designed to address the following curriculum outcomes:

  • Y5–9 English
  • Y5–9 Humanities and Social Sciences (History)
