2018 Present Tense 1: Writing YA that Teens Deserve

Knowing you are writing fiction for a young adult readership informs every choice from boundaries crossed to hope given. To what extent do authors mine their own experiences of youth to write compelling, authentic stories? Is this enough? What responsibilities do YA writers have to contemporary readers?

Writer, reviewer and literary agent Danielle Binks will explore these questions and more with three award-winning novelists: Alice Pung (Laurinda), Simmone Howell (Girl Defective) and Cath Crowley (Words in Deep Blue). RMIT’s Professional Writing and Editing teacher Clare Strahan (The Learning Curves of Vanessa Partridge) will introduce the event.

This event is free but registrations are essential.
