Teenage Creative Writing Program with Jennifer Breukelaar

Whether you’re a novice or have already been writing for a while, the Teenage Creative Writers’ Program for budding authors is the ideal starting point on your road to creative development and skills building. You will learn how to kick-start the creative writing process, tap into your imagination and build a framework on which you can add memorable characters, plot, dialogue and more.

Paired with an award-winning author mentor, you will work one-on-one in a safe and secure environment, developing your skills and understanding of the writing process.

New South Wales

South Coast Writer’s Centre – Young Writers Program

The Young Writers Program at the South Coast Writers Centre is a thriving program that has been running since 2014, offering creative writing workshops for young people aged 10-18. The program is built on active, workshop-based learning and practice, with the aim to be both a class and community, where young writers can develop their craft and create work they are proud of in a relaxed, inclusive, and supportive space.

There are two classes available. The young writers group, for ages 10-14; and the senior young writer group, for ages 15-18

Queensland Writers Centre – Youth Writing Saturday

A monthly creative writing workshop for young people aged 10-16. Youth Writing Saturday sessions take budding young writers on an adventure through their imagination, as they write and create their very own stories, worlds, characters and more. An inspiring and supportive community.

Cost: $30, but free for Queensland Writers Centre members


South Australia

Writers South Australia – Teen Writers Club

The Teen Writers Club meets during school term, and is guided by a guest teacher. The program is shaped by the interests of the group, and they’re supported to set and achieve their own writing goals. We provide creative content, information on the industry and careers, mentoring, and the opportunity for support for school-based writing projects. 2024 will be facilitated by Adam Cece.

Location: City Library, 3 Rundle Place, 77-91 Rundle Mall, Adelaide SA 5000

Dates: Saturday’s during school term

Cost: $200 per term


Writers South Australia – Mentorship Program

The Writers SA mentorship program is designed to connect our members with a suitable mentor, at any stage of their writing careers. From writing craft, editing, pre-publication, to marketing and publicity mentorships – and encompassing a wide range of genres.

The website lists five authors specialising in YA: Adam Cece, Jane Turner Goldsmith, Margot McGovern, Lesil Leighton, and Scott Zarcinas

Location: Online and face-to-face, depending on residency.

Western Australia

The Literature Centre – Young Writers Days

A face-to-face workshop-mentorship program. It offers year 6-12 students open and encouraging space for young writers and creatives to learn from award-winning Australian WA authors and meet a group of like-minded young people.


  • Perth metro residents: The Literature Centre, Knutsford St &, Hampton Rd, Fremantle WA 6160
  • Regional WA residents: sites in Albany, Bunbury, Busselton, and Geraldton

Dates: one day per semester.

Cost: $35 per term, or $140 for a year.


The Literature Centre – Young Writers Online

Young Writers Online offers a modern and dynamic platform for students (Year 6-12) to learn from award-winning Australian YA authors, develop their writing skills and discover a wide range of genres. This flexible program offers pre-recorded sessions suitable for the classroom or at-home learning in metropolitan, regional or remote Australia.

Kill Your Darlings – Writing Young Adult Fiction with Alison Evans

Whether writing genre or contemporary young adult fiction, your book needs to speak to teenagers. The market is full of wonderful stories for teens; how can you make sure yours will stand out?
This course will teach you more about the world of YA and give you the tools you need to craft your manuscript, as well as keeping you motivated during those long hours at your desk.

Lili Wilkinson – Manuscript Feedback Service

Lili offers a manuscript assessment service where she can read your WIP and provide feedback and advice. You’ll get an electronic report detailing my overall impression of your work, the project’s strengths and weaknesses, suggestions for changes, and comments on any particular areas you’re looking for. She offers a three-week turnaround. Fees are based on word count:
