Published by Express Media, Voiceworks is a national quarterly journal that features exciting new writing and art by young Australians. People under the age of 25 have the chance to publish their fiction, nonfiction, poetry, art and comics. Always open.

 KYD School Writing Prize

Kill Your Darlings is one of Australia’s leading arts and culture magazine. Their annual school writing prize is open to school students Australia-wide and is calling for entries across various forms that speak to the theme of ‘growth’. Closes 21st July.

 The Golden Pen

WA’s Scribblers Festival’s annual writing competition, The Golden Pen, is open for 2023 entries. Open to school-aged young people, this year’s theme is “explore the world of Creative Bravery” and is open to interpretation by the writer. Entries are on an individual or classroom basis. Closes 26th August.

Rhiza Edge Short Story Competition

Submit your YA short story set in a dystopian or steampunk world for a chance to be published in the Diverging Worlds Anthology. Open to submissions from students. Closes 31st August.

Poem Forest

Red Room Poetry’s Poem Forest is open once again for entries! For every poem entered, a tree is planted. Several categories are open to students (and teachers!) and there are poetry writing resources on the website. Closes 22nd September.
