We are delighted to announce that we will be opening two new Melbourne bookshops in 2016.

The first new shop will be opening on Lygon St, right beside our existing flagship Carlton shop, in the space currently occupied by an Esprit clothing store. This new shop will be a dedicated children’s bookshop, exclusively selling books, music and films for kids and teenagers. Children’s publishing is booming, and the children’s and YA section in the existing Carlton shop needs room to grow, so it will be moving entirely into the new shop where it will be significantly expanded.

A shop devoted to children’s and young adult books is the perfect fit for Readings, as we are committed to supporting children’s literature – especially Australian children’s literature – as an integral part of children’s development. In 2014, we established the Readings Children’s Book Prize, and have since sold over 1,000 copies each of the two winning Australian books.

Our new children’s bookshop is currently set to open in late May or early June 2016.

Our second new shop is opening in Westfield Doncaster shopping centre, and will be a generalist independent bookshop, stocking a range of adult and children’s books, plus CDs, DVDs, vinyl, stationery, gift items, and more. Readings Doncaster will be opening at the beginning of August 2016.
